A1 customer service tonight. Motorbike broke down on the M20, when I called I was given an estimate on how long it would take to get to me as the recovery agent was on another job at that precise moment and how long that would take to complete. Was given loads of information on how to keep safe (hazard lights, move away from the road, keep eyes on oncoming traffic etc, etc) 45 minutes later I received a courtesy call to say he'd completed the other job and double checked my location, gave an accurate ETA, which by the time he arrived was frighteningly accurate... 35 minutes I got another courtesy call to say he was just turning round at the junction before where I'd broken down. All 3 calls reasserted the necessity of staying safe, away from the road/vehicle etc and reassured me that I'd called the right company. When my recovery agent Ray arrived, he explained the process he was going to go through to get my bike on the back of the lorry and how it was going to be secured, which points on the bike he was going to secure the straps and showed me the soft wadding that he was going to use to protect it and reassured me that no metal would touch my bike. He then proceeded to attach the winch with soft wadded strops as promised, then slowly and carefully winched my bike onto the back of the ramp like it was a baby in a pram. He attached 2 securing straps to forks (again using the wadded pads that he'd promised) and another to rear wheel, so the bike couldn't move forwards, backwards or side-to-side. He then cinched the straps down equally so that they weren't too tight or crushing the suspension and explained that the suspension still needs some movement so that the bike won't get damaged. He then invited me to test that I was happy. The bike was solid and I was sure it wasn't going to move. The journey home to Dover was comfortable, Ray checked a couple of time that I was comfortable with the temperature in the cab as I'd been in the cold for some time, but still had all my winter bike gear on, which I thought was a nice touch. When we finally got the bike home, I was really surprised and incredibly grateful that Ray didn't just lower the bike down to the side of the road, but helped me to push it up my (steep) drive to it's usual resting spot and waiting with a light while I locked it up... Customer service way above and beyond what I was expecting from a Recovery Service and although I recommend that you don't break down, I'd say that if like me, you just happened to, then I'd recommend this company... Personally I hope I never need to use them again, but if I was in a similar situation, I wouldn't hesitate to call them and will google Woodlands Rescue (and not just "vehicle recovery near me". Thanks again Ray. You're a true gent.
